This is why I do it!

For the past 4 weeks, I have been watching this little boy on the playground and he puts all sorts of bowls and pails on his head.  He was never in my class.  This week, I moved to another classroom, where the teacher is fairly useless and demanding to her assistant and the intern.  The child to adult ratio is 10 to 1 in Alaska.  She always manages to have 21 in her room so that she has 3 people.  Sometimes, she has 4!  Anyway, I still love the kids.  They are all unique and individual!!!

Today, when I went to work it was 46 degrees.  At noon (when we went out on the playground) it was 54 degrees.  They have an plexiglass wall for painting and it was dirty so the teacher put out easel washing and I took a few pictures.

Last night, we met Eric's friend Jeffery and Monica's friend, Chester for conveyor belt sushi. Jeffery is from London and he taught English for 2 years over here and now attends the same University that Eric does. His mother is Japanese and father is British. Chester went to college with Monica in California. He is over here for a few months studying Japanese. He is full Chinese and wants to stay in Japan longer. We were going for conveyor belt sushi. I love sushi and when Eric lived in Miyazaki, I had it there. It is fun to watch all the food go by and then to pick what you want. The only downfall is sometimes it goes around alot and when you pick it, it is not hot. Still good, just not hot. We met in Shibuya, which is the largest "meet up" place in Tokyo. It's been almost two years since I went to Japan. There are a few perks to teaching: one is summer's off. I love to travel and visit new cultures but the drawback to teaching is our salaries are low. With that said, I have to find a creative way to travel. This school year has been difficult with my hip issues and enrollment being low at the community college where I teach. I found myself somewhat frustrated with both and personally when that happens, I need an adventure. This summer I am going to have an adventure.....I am nervous and excited! Packing will be difficult because I will need both winter clothes and summer clothes. I was told to bring it all and especially to bring a hat and gloves because I would need them if I went out on a boat. It's going to be an exciting summer! Where in the world???  More to come!!

Thank God tomorrow is Friday!

This has been the longest and toughest week for me up here.  First of all, I am working with this 29 pregnant girl who has been the princess all her life.  She has two assistants who do everything in their classroom while the teacher takes long breaks, does some paperwork, little planning and searches baby websites.  I am supposed to be her assistant this week and next week I become the lead for the last 3 weeks of summer school.  It has challenged both my patience, my professionalism, and my New York mouth!  I have held tight but there was one day that I thought we might have a cat fight.  Actually, I was going to ask her about her training and who in her training said she could delegate all the work out.  This week is also challenging because I have longer hours and my hip has been hurting badly.  But I know my hip feels the stresses in my life before any other part of my body.
